Get your driving licence before you start your driving lessons.
Before you start to your driving lessons, you'll need to be 17 and have a valid provisional licence.
To get your provisional licence you can apply online, or complete a D1 form from the post office and send it to the DVLA with your proof of identity and a passport-sized photo. You must be in possession of your license before you can start your driving lessons.
When you have received your licence, you will need to access a licence ‘check code’ to share your driving record with your driving instructor, you can do this by following this link www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence.
The ‘check code’ will be valid for 21 days. The check code should be sent to your instructor before your first lesson.
Its important that you are comfortable and at ease with what you are wearing, you will be sitting down so nothing too tight as this may restrict movement, a comfortable pair of shoes, trainer type are good, but nothing too heavy, you will need to be able to feel the pedals with your feet. if you normally find that seatbelts rub on your neck when riding in a car then wear a top with a collar, you will be able to run the seatbelt under the collar and not on your neck.
if you normally wear glasses, you must bring them with you or have your contact lenses fitted, a simple eyesight test will be done before your first driving lesson, this will also be done by your driving test examiner before your driving test.
if you think you will need to, bring some water or a drink, hydration is important to maintain concentration.
